Omochere & Akhamrich secure seventh straight win at Tranmere

report - Tranmere (A)

Tranmere Rovers 1-2 Bristol Rovers
Sky Bet League Two, Prenton Park, Saturday 18 April 2026

Bristol Rovers secured a seventh win in a row on the road to Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

Substitute impacts from Promise Omochere and Yusuf Akhamrich meant the Pirates secured all three points.

A scrappy start to the game saw neither side take control of the game as both sides struggled to create clear cut chances, Rovers came closest through Tommy Leigh, but his curled effort was just wide.

The introduction of Omochere in the 59th minute was warmly received by the gas fans after his lengthy injury spell, and his return proved to be worth the wait smashing an effort past Marko Marosi just minutes after coming onto the pitch.

Tranmere would equalise through Jayden Joseph after a great cross from Ethan Bristow but Akhamrich came of the bench to drive at the tiring Tranmere defence and curl his shot into the bottom left corner to secure all three points for the Gas.

The first chance of the game fell to the gas as Shaq Forde lifted a ball over the Tranmere defence for Joe Quigley who brought the ball down well but a tackle from a defender nearly beat Marko Marosi in goal.

Forde was involved often in the initial stages, picking up the ball in the 19th minute just outside the box and driving a powerful effort just over the bar.

Omari Patrick looked dangerous for the home side, holding up the ball well and lifting a ball into the Rovers box, which was headed back across goal, but Jack Sparkes was able to clear.

The best chance of the half for the gas came as Fabrizio Cavegn broke away from his marker and slipped Tommy Leigh through on goal who cut inside and curled an effort wide of the post.

Tranmere came out strongly in the second half, a corner flicked on to Woolery in the box saw the forward go down looking for a penalty, but referee Carl Brook was unmoved.

The returning Promise Omochere was back with back with a bang as he picked the pocket of a Tranmere defender before cutting inside and smashing the ball into the top corner to give the Gas the lead.

The lead would not last long as the home-side broke down the hand side through Ethan Bristow who delivered a perfect cross for his wingback partner Jayden Joseph to slide home an equaliser.

Rovers took the lead late on as they looked to equal their record of seven wins in a row from 1953. Yusuf Akhamrich was released down the right-hand side before beating multiple defenders and sliding a left footed shot into the bottom corner. The hosts fought till the end but Yusuf’s strike was enough for all three points at Prenton Park.
