Remembrance at Bristol Rovers Football Club

Remembrance at Bristol Rovers

The remembrance period offers all at Bristol Rovers Football Club the opportunity to honour those who have died in service.

This time of year is particularly significant for those associated with sport in Bristol after 300 rugby players from the city lost their lives in the First World War. Since then, players and representatives from teams across Bristol have come together to remember them.

As we head into such a poignant period of the calendar, Bristol Rovers would like to share the Club’s plans for the remembrance period.

The Club will welcome Bristol Football Club (RFU) and Bristol Sport to The Memorial Stadium once again for the annual Laying Of The Wreaths.

The ceremony, which will be attended by representatives from all Bristol-based teams, will be led by Father Michael Healy, Reverand Wayne Massey of Bristol Rovers FC, Reverand Richard Evans from Bristol Bears, Reverand Chris Jones from Bristol City Sports, Chaplain Esther Legg-Bagg of Bristol City Women and Colonel Jane Thompson.

Each team and attending group will lay a wreath at the historic Memorial Gates in a show of unified remembrance across Bristol.

Bristol Rovers will also mark the remembrance period with a dedicated Remembrance Fixture on Saturday 14 November 2026, at home to Chesterfield.

Lest we forget

Representatives from the Royal British Legion and the Royal Dragoon Guards will attend The Memorial Stadium as the Club commemorates the contribution of the Armed Forces community.

There will be an Act Of Remembrance ahead of kick-off against Chesterfield, including a wreath-laying ceremony, the playing of The Last Post and a period of silence, and supporters attending this fixture are encouraged to join us as we pay tribute to those who died in service.

The Club will also mark the remembrance period with a subtler tribute at the Jersey Mike’s Trophy fixture at home to Reading on Tuesday 10 November.

The Poppy Appeal will also attend our home fixture against Swindon Town on Saturday 24 October 2026, raising funds for the Royal British Legion’s vital work supporting veterans, personnel and their families.

The Club can also confirm that Bristol Rovers-branded poppy pins are now available both in our Stadium Shop and in our online store now.
