Nathan Hallett-Young told the Bristol Rovers Women’s players that claiming a win over Maidenhead United was the most important thing on Sunday, and the Gas delivered with an outstanding 4-1 victory to return to winning ways.
The Pirates had lost their previous three fixtures across all competitions, but got off to a stunning start when Meg Jarvis sent a cutback towards Abbey Hately to score from close range.
Jarvis then turned into the scorer five minutes later, finishing into the bottom corner. Maidenhead got one back eight minutes from the end, but Jarvis scored two late goals to complete here hat-trick and a comprehensive victory for Rovers.
Hallett-Young reflected on the fixture with BRTV before previewing the Gas’ final fixture of the year against Ascot United.
Back to winning ways and a hat-trick for Meg Jarvis. How are you feeling?
“Well, I have been saying it for the last few weeks, really, about how we have been performing, and it’s come off. There were a few frailties here and there, but the main thing is that it’s a performance. I said to the guys beforehand that the result is everything that matters, and they stepped up.
“There were a couple of changes to that lineup, but I think it really showed how together the unit was, and I think we showed a level of unity across the squad, but performance-wise, it was really, really good, and it’s just nice to be back to winning ways.”
We play Ascot United in our final game of the year. How are you feeling ahead of that one?
“If we can continue with a performance like we did today, and we can build into this week, and we can keep pushing, it’s just utilising the last couple of weeks. The performances have been there, but we haven’t had that grit and desire to force things to happen, make the game turn our way and turn the tide when it was against us.
“If we can continue with the way we played today and the way we made things happen, just from the style of play, how aggressive we were and the want and desire to do well and for your mates to do well, then I think we’ll be in a really good place for the Ascot game. Hopefully, we can build from that past Christmas, not just before Christmas, but obviously, we want to focus on next week.”
