Meet The Officials | Newport County (H)

Will Finnie

Referee Will Finnie will oversee Bristol Rovers’ clash against Newport County in Sky Bet League Two.

Finnie has been the man in the middle for Rovers games ten times in his career, the last time coming back in the 2023/24 season when the Gas lost 2-0 to Reading in Sky Bet League One.

In comparison, Finnie has refereed seven Newport fixtures, so he should be well-versed in both sides heading into the Severnside derby on Saturday. His last Exiles game came this month as Newport were defeated 2-1 at home to AFC Wimbledon at the Rodney Parade.

In his ten-year career so far, Will Finnie has taken charge of 276 matches, the majority of which have come in Sky Bet League One and Two, as well as over ten appearances in both the FA Cup and EFL Cup. His career has also taken him to Wembley, where he officiated the 2024/25 Sky Bet League Two play-off final between Wimbledon and Walsall.

This season, the referee has taken charge of 16 matches across seven competitions. His most recent outing was in Sky Bet League One earlier this week, where Plymouth Argyle drew 1-1 with Mansfield Town.

Will Finnie will be joined by Assistant Referees David Nicholson and Christopher Husband, and Fourth Official Niall Smith.
