Meet The Officials | Colchester United (H)

Ben Toner

Referee Ben Toner will oversee Bristol Rovers’ clash against Colchester United in Sky Bet League Two.

Refereeing since the age of 15, Toner has refereed an impressive 13 games for the Pirates, with his first coming well over a decade ago when the Pirates beat Lincoln City in what was then known as the Conference, now the National League. However, he did not oversee a Rovers fixture last campaign, with his previous coming in the 2024/24 Sky Bet League One season, when the Gas lost 2-0 away to Peterborough United.

In comparison, Toner has only refereed six Colchester fixtures, with his previous game for the U's also appearing in the 2023/24 term. This time in Sky Bet League Two, Colchester lost 3-1 to Doncaster Rovers.

With almost 450 games under his belt, Toner has appeared across the EFL and has been to Wembley twice, refereeing the EFL Trophy final in 2023 and the League Two play-off final in 2024, where Crawley Town beat Crewe Alexandra.

Toner has refereed 15 games across three different competitions this season, with 10 coming in the Sky Bet Championship. The most recent match he officiated was a Sky Bet League Two fixture between Crawley Town and Bromley, with a hat-trick from Bromley striker Michael Cheek helping the Ravens to all three points.

Ben Toner will be joined by Assistant Referees Ian Cooper and Matthew Smith and Fourth Official Kirsty Dowle.
