Bristol Rovers v Marine Academy Plymouth
FA Women's National League Cup, Oaklands Park Stadium, Sunday 7th September, 2:00pm.

After last weekend’s impressive 4-0 victory over Bournemouth Sports, the Gas Girls will be aiming to build on that success as they look to carry their momentum into this weekend’s game against newly promoted Marine Academy Plymouth.

Captain Rianne Bourne-Hallett had urged patience before the game and was confident it would be the time for the attacking line to show its strength. This prediction proved to be spot on as the Gas Girls hit four past Bournemouth.

Goal scorer Laura Barrett reflected afterwards on a “great performance,” suggesting that the success was a “real starting point for the season” and felt it marked the moment when the team would really “start hitting the ground running.”

Opposition...

Marine Academy Plymouth topped the Premier Division last season with 15 wins, 4 draws and just one defeat, earning promotion to this division for the current campaign, a position the Gas Girls themselves occupied only last year. They currently sit fourth in the table, one place below Rovers. Marine Academy opened their campaign with a goalless defeat but have since built momentum, recording both a win and a draw while scoring six goals in total. While they have found the net one more time than the Gas Girls, they have conceded twice, in contrast to Rovers’ impressive run of three consecutive clean sheets.

Previous Meetings...

Despite only being promoted this season, the two sides are not strangers. They met in last season’s FA Cup, where Rovers claimed a 5-0 victory in the second round, knocking Marine Academy out while making Gas Girls history by reaching the third round for the first time. On that afternoon, Meg Jarvis scored four times to take her tally to 20 goals before Christmas, and she remains a threat this season after finding the net again last weekend.
