Bridgwater United WFC v Bristol Rovers WFC
WNL Division 1 South West, The North Somerset Sports Foundation Stadium, Sunday 24 August, 2pm KO
Bristol Rovers Women make their first away trip of the season this Sunday as they take on Bridgwater United at North Somerset Sports Foundation Stadium.
The fixture follows Tuesday’s postponed cup game between the two sides, which was called off due to insufficient lighting at the ground. Both teams will now look to reset and push for early momentum at the start of their league campaigns.
Rovers began the season on a high, securing three points with a 1 - 0 victory over Ascot United. Summer signing Maisy Collis, who joined from Cheltenham Town Women FC, made an immediate impact with a stunning debut strike. Goalkeeper George Hunt was named Player of the Match after keeping a clean sheet, later describing Collis’ winner as “perfect”.
Bridgwater United will be eager to respond after a disappointing 3 - 1 defeat away at Moneyfields on the opening day. Beatriz Kretteis’ strike provided a glimpse of their attacking threat, giving them something to build on as hosts this weekend.
