Match Preview | Barrow AFC v Bristol Rovers

PREVIEW

Barrow AFC v Bristol Rovers
Sky Bet League Two, SO Legal Stadium, Tuesday 10 March 2026, 7:45pm KO

Bristol Rovers will be looking to build on their victory over Crewe Alexandra with a third win in four outings when they travel to Barrow on Tuesday night.

The Pirates will make the long trip to South Cumbria in midweek after their meeting at the start of January was postponed. Back then, the Gas had just come off the back of an impressive 3-0 victory away at Shrewsbury Town thanks to a second-half hat-trick from Fabrizio Cavegn.

However, much has changed since then. At that point, only Ryan de Havilland had been signed, with the Gas having made eight more additions in the January transfer window, with players also departing.

The Gas will be full of confidence after an impressive comeback victory over Crew in their last match, with Tommy Leigh netting a late brace to help Steve Evans' men come from behind to win, earning them a fourth win in five matches at The Memorial Stadium.

As for Barrow, they drew 2-2 in their previous Sky Bet League Two outings. The Bluebirds had a 2-1 lead until the final few minutes, with Isaac Hutchinson hitting a 90th-minute leveller for the Robins.

Tickets…

Tickets can be purchased by card or cash at the SO Legal Stadium on the day of the fixture at the main reception. Please note that there will be a £2 price increase

Travel…

To drive from Bristol to Barrow A.F.C.’s SO Legal Stadium, begin by joining the M5 northbound from Bristol, following signs for Birmingham and the North West. Continue on the M5 until it merges with the M6 near Birmingham, then stay on the M6 heading north towards Preston and Carlisle. After passing Preston, take Junction 36 to join the A590, signposted for Barrow-in-Furness.

Follow the A590 west for around 30 miles, continuing straight as it becomes a dual carriageway and then a single carriageway closer to Barrow. As you approach the town, follow signs for the town centre and Holker Street. SO Legal Stadium is located on Holker Street.

Opposition…

Plenty has changed at Barrow since the start of January. When the two teams had first been scheduled to meet at the SO Legal Stadium, Paul Gallagher was in position for his first game as the Bluebirds Head Coach, with Andy Wing departing from the club after a run of six fixtures without a victory.

Nevertheless, Gallagher's tenure was short. The 41-year-old departed after losing all five fixtures, with Dino Maamria coming in. He had an immediate impact, with Barrow beating promotion hopefuls Colchester United in his first game in charge, but then lost three on the bounce before drawing with Cheltenham.

However, they will take some positives from the fact that all of their losses came by just one goal, with Maamria making the Bluebirds hard to beat. Barrow are above the relegation zone on goal difference, but have played two fewer matches than Newport County in the position below.

Playing in Sky Bet League Two for the sixth straight season, Barrow's fans will be hoping that Maamria can lead the team up the table and above their 21st-place finish last term.

Previous Meetings…

Barrow are unbeaten in their four home Football League games against Bristol Rovers (winning two and drawing two). The last fixture at the SO Legal Stadium ended 1-1 in August 2021, with Sam Nicholson's opener cancelled out by Ollie Banks.

However, the Pirates have won their last two games against Barrow, triumphing at The Mem earlier this season thanks to goals from Josh McEachran and Fabrizio Cavegn. The Gas are unbeaten across their previous five EFL meetings with the Cumbrian side since April 1969 (winning three and drawing two), but have never won three straight games against the Bluebirds.
