Josh Griffiths | I think it could be a good away day

Josh Griffiths

Josh Griffiths believes Bristol Rovers can overcome the tough test they face ahead of their trip to Rotherham United in Sky Bet League One.

The Gas started the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Northampton Town and are looking to return to winning ways after losing 2-0 to Cardiff City in the first-round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

As for the Millers, they are tipped to challenge towards the top of the league after being relegated from the Championship last term but lost to Exeter City on the opening day.

Griffiths knows Rotherham's qualities with their direct style of play but has faith in his side to get through the challenge.

“You know what you’re probably going to get with Rotherham," said the shot-stopper. “They’ve got some good quality, of course they have, as they’ve just come down from the Championship and are probably going to be up there come the end of the season.

“It’s going to be a tough challenge for myself and the team, we’re going to need some strong character. But it’s definitely a game we look at where there’s going to be chances for us, and I think it could be a good away day.”

Griffiths suggested that he is not focused on shutouts but insists that he and his new teammates work on their connection.

“It was nice to get a clean sheet [against Northampton],” he said. “I try not to worry about them too much, but obviously, when the game finishes, it is nice to have a clean sheet as well.”

“I think it’s definitely something that’s worked on over time and something that’s only going to get better and better. The more you play with each other, the more you click, and the better it’s going to become.”

Griffiths is on loan from West Bromwich Albion and has already had temporary spells at Cheltenham Town, Lincoln City and Portsmouth to gain experience. Additionally, he made ten appearances for the Baggies in the 2022-23 season.

He stated that he has enjoyed his time at the club and has targets for the upcoming campaign.

“I’m really enjoying my time at Bristol Rovers, said Griffiths. “It’s a nice part of the world. Everyone’s been really welcoming.

“I do set myself targets, and you have a picture of where you want to be come the end of the season.

“But then my main focus is coming here and trying to affect the group in a positive way, be a positive influence, pass on some knowledge that I've gained over my short few years on loan so far.”
