The Pirates started promisingly, but went down to ten men when Jack Sparkes was shown a red card for a handball inside the box. Ryan Loft took responsibility for the spot-kick, but thumped the left post.
The Gas responded with a chance of their own. Shaq Forde, who was making his first start of the season, raced forward before seeing a thunderous strike pushed onto the bar. The Red Devils scored soon after, with Scott Malone's effort fortunately deflecting off Alfie Kilgour and into the back of the net.
Harry Forster, Malone and Louis Flower then netted in the second half to give Crawley all three points. The Gas will now be looking to respond in the Emirates FA Cup next weekend when they travel to Bromley.
