The Gas made 11 changes to the side that beat Newport County 5-3 on the weekend, but the Pirates showed no signs of disconnection. The hosts dominated the early exchanges and gained the lead with a flowing move. Ryan de Havilland curled the ball down the left to Jack Aitchison, who whipped a cross towards Mees Rijks for a first-time finish.
Rovers doubled their advantage after half-time, with Reiss Russell-Denny chipping the ball towards Joe Quigley, who blasted a volley into the bottom corner.
However, the Gas could not hold onto their lead. Harrison Bettoni and Chizaram Ezenwata scored for the Young Blues, who then won the penalty shoot-out 4-2.
