The Pirates were looking to continue the strong league form they ended the previous campaign with and gained the lead against the run of play when Clinton Mola made a late run into the box and finished off Fabrizio Cavegn's clever cutback.
However, the Minstermen scored two second-half goals in quick succession to turn the score around, with Alex Newby and Harry Boyes netting before Tommy Leigh levelled from the penalty spot. With the score level heading into the final stages, Boyes netted again to mark York's return to the English Football League with a victory.
