The Mariners were coming into the contest with four straight clean sheets on the road, but were left stunned when the Pirates gained the lead within two minutes. Kofi Balmer, who scored a stunning volley against Walsall at The Memorial Stadium, was at it once again and blasted a right-footed volley into the bottom corner.
With seven minutes on the clock, Joe Quigley then made it two. Yusuf Akhamrich got down the left and drilled the ball towards the striker, who turned a first-time finish beyond the goalkeeper for his first goal at The Mem.
Andy Cook got one back for the visitors just before the break, but Rovers held onto their lead before netting their third to take complete control of the contest once again. Akhamrich collected the ball on the right side of the box before moving it onto his stronger left foot and curling a low attempt into the bottom corner to seal all three points for Steve Evans' men.
