The Pirates started the day at the top of the fourth tier and named the same starting side that beat Crawley Town and Colchester United. Chances were few and far between in the opening 45 minutes, but the Gas took the lead through Tommy Leigh, who reacted quickly to a saved shot from Bobby Kamwa to drill a low first-time effort from inside the box into the back of the net.
In the second half, the Pirates pushed for a second, with Kofi Balmer going the closest for the hosts. The defender sent a right-footed effort on target, with Ted Cann pushing his strike into the bar.
Rotherham searched for a leveller, but could not find one. Fábio Tavares probably should have done better with a header, directing his attempt from the middle of the box straight at Brad Young before thundering the bar in the final moments. As a result, the Gas held onto their lead for a fourth straight league victory.
