Match Preview: Rovers v Shrewsbury Town

8 February 2019

Rovers return to the Mem on Saturday afternoon to face Shrewsbury Town, looking to build on an unbeaten run of three games, the latest of which was the 2-1 win at Southend United.

That victory lifted the side out of the danger zone, but only on goal difference and with Saturday's opponents just a draw behind in 23rd, this game is looking like a real six-pointer.

Rovers seem to have recaptured their touch in front of goal in recent weeks, netting seven times in their last three games.

The last league victory at the Mem came three days before Christmas; the 2-1 win over Fleetwood Town that sparked the upturn in results, as well as a comprehensive 3-0 triumph over Port Vale in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Victory at BS7 this weekend could see Rovers rise to as high as 17th and pull three points away from the bottom four.

Manager's View: Graham Coughlan addressed the press on Thursday afternoon at the training ground and looked ahead to Saturday's encounter.

JCH's View: We also finally heard from new man Jonson Clarke-Harris, following his 11th-hour arrival on deadline day last week.

Opposition View: Only AFC Wimbledon separate the Shrews from the very foot of the table and despite an inspired FA Cup run which saw them knock out Championship Stoke City and then earn a replay against Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, they have been struggling for results. Their last four games in all competitions have seen them ship 12 goals and their last league victory harks all the way back to the 22nd of December, a narrow 1-0 triumph over Coventry City at home. To locate Town's last league victory on the road, you'd have to go back to the start of November 2018, as they beat now rock bottom side Wimbledon 2-1.

Tickets: Online tickets will be available up until midnight on Friday, 8th February. Tickets pre-purchased online are eligible for our 'Print at Home' option, which is a hassle-free way of securing your ticket that eliminates the need to queue on a match day to collect. If you are purchasing a ticket on the day of the game, please note that we no longer accept cash at the turnstiles, as tickets must be purchased at the match day ticket office (or from the Club Superstore between 9am-11am on a matchday).
