North Bristol Foodbank Chosen As Charity Partner

20 November 2018

The Club is pleased to announce that North Bristol Foodbank has been chosen as the Club’s second official charity partner.

The charity, which operates within the local community, helped to provide over 4,000 emergency food supplies to local people in Horfield, Filton Southmead, Lockleaze and Patchway last year.

As part of a national network campaigning for change, the foodbank is working hard to offer practical emergency support to help prevent people affected going hungry, whilst simultaneously participating in vital research and raising awareness about the issues local people are facing.

As well as providing emergency food, North Bristol Foodbank provides essentials like toiletries, nappies and sanitary products to families who are struggling, as well as signposting them to other services in the local area.

Speaking about the appointment of the charity as the club’s second charity partner, Commercial Director, Tom Gorringe said, “Last season, we were delighted to work with our supporters on the “Gasheads Against Food Poverty” initiative and saw first-hand the positive impact that it had on those in need within our local community.

“We are committed to doing all we can to ensure our partnership supports the charity – whether that means raising awareness of campaigns and events or to offer more hands on practical help.

“North Bristol Foodbank offer a beacon hope to those who are forced to use such means when times get tough.

“This time of year can be extremely busy for such charities and we hope we can provide assistance at such a demanding period and beyond”.

Matt Dobson, Foodbank Manager of North Bristol Foodbank said: “We don’t want to be here forever. No one in North Bristol should need a foodbank’s help and we want to see an end to local people needing emergency food at all. It doesn’t have to be this way - with a benefits system that catches people before they fall into crisis, and secure work that provides people with enough money to cover the cost of essentials, this is possible.

“But until that time, we’ll continue to provide vital support when it matters most - we’re dedicated to ensuring that people in our community with no money for food are able to access emergency support, and that has only been possible in the last year because of the incredible generosity shown by local people in donating food, time and funds.”
