New Deal for Alfie

8 May 2018

Alfie Kilgour, who celebrates his 20th birthday this month, has today signed a new deal to extend his stay at the club.

Central defender Alfie was included in the first team squad for the first time for the match against Accrington Stanley on 12th September 2015 when he was one of our unused substitutes.

The towering defender, who has been with the club since the age of seven, was allocated squad number 32 and given a first team contract in the summer of 2016, the only scholar to be upgraded to the pro ranks that year.

Alfie spent time on loan at Cirencester Town in 2016/17, but on his return, he sustained a serious cruciate ligament injury in a Gloucestershire Senior Amateur Cup tie against Slimbridge.

He signed a new one year contract in the summer of 2017 and worked hard to recover from his injury, returning tom action earlier than expected and going on to be a regular member of our Development Squad.

He went put on loan to National League South side Hungerford Town towards the end of the season and played his part as they successfully avoided relegation in the final game of their league season.

Alfie spoke exclusively to the club after putting pen to paper on his new deal; "Every time I sign a new contract, it's a dream come true," he said..

"Being a Rovers fan since I was young, it's obviously a proud moment.”

Watch the full interview with Alfie below, as he discusses his progress through the Academy, his battle back from injury and how he hopes to mount a challenge for a first team spot next season.
