Academy Review: Tom Parrinello

10 May 2018

Lead Professional Development Phase Coach, Tom Parrinello, gives his thoughts on Liam Armstrong's professional deal and looks back on the past season with the U18's.

On Tuesday it was announced that Academy goalkeeper Liam Armstrong has signed professional terms with the Club, with Parrinello quick to praise the youngster's attitude over the past season.

"It's good news for Liam, his family and the Academy," outlined Parrinello.

"From our point of view, this is thoroughly deserved. Liam has been probably our best performer this season and has been the most improved player as well."

"He has played in a number of games for the Development Squad and has trained regularly with them, but also has gone away and picked up an experience of first-team football while out on loan."

"He epitomises what we are looking for in young professional, in terms of his work ethic, attitude and application."

Liam joins both Alfie Clarke and James Spruce, who agreed proffesional deals last month. With a tally of three players progressing from the Academy setup this term, Tom is pleased with the players being shown the pathway at available at the Club.

"Internally we had a target at the beginning of the season, that we wanted to get a certain number of players through to professionals deals."

"We want to bring through players that we deem can make an impression at the next level."
