New Deal For Tom

9 January 2018

We are pleased to announce that central defender Tom Broadbent has agreed to extend his contract with the club following a successful first half of the season.

Speaking at the club’s training ground this morning, manager Darrell Clarke said; “I am delighted that Tom has agreed to extend his contract with us.

“Although, in terms of league football, he was inexperienced when he joined us, he has done very well in his first season at this level.

“He still has a great deal to learn, but he is very keen to progress and I enjoy working with him.”

Tom, meanwhile, said; “I’m extremely happy that this has come so quickly.

“I thought that perhaps a new deal may come towards the back end of the season, but I’m delighted to get a new contract signed and now I can concentrate on the rest of the campaign.”

The former Lance Bombardier with the Royal Artillery, who served six years in the Army, joined the club last summer having previously played non league football for Farnborough, Petersfield Town and Hayes & Yeading.

Tom, who also played representative football for the Army, had always harboured ambitions of playing league football and was handed his opportunity by Darrell in the summer.

He made his debut against Charlton Athletic on the opening day of the current season and has since made 16 appearances in all competitions.
