Defender Ryan Sweeney previews Saturday's encounter with Blackpool.

The Stoke loanee spoke to the press on Thursday morning ahead of the long trip North to face the Seasiders on Saturday.

The fixture is Rovers' first fixture since the New Year's Day victory over Portsmouth, with the defender signalling that the break in the schedule has been beneficial following the hectic festive schedule.

"Obviously the Christmas period in English football is very busy," said Sweeney.

"The quick turnaround, especially between the Oldham game and the visit of Portsmouth was tough, but the gaffer utilised the squad very well and we managed to pick up some good results."

The defender was asked about the importance of the win over Portsmouth and relayed the three points at the Mem helped put the gloss on a positive period over Christmas and New Year for the squad.

"I said after the Oldham game that if we were to get a win over Portsmouth, then it would turn those two draws on the road at both Walsall and Oldham into very good points."

Looking ahead to Saturday's encounter, Sweeney admitted that he is looking forward to facing his former Rovers teammate, Joe Lumley, who joined Blackpool on loan earlier in the week.

"I have spoken to Joe quite a lot over the last couple of days and he mentioned that he might be joining Blackpool on loan and then I realised that they were, in fact, our next game."

"I still speak to him quite a lot, so it will be good to see him, but hopefully he doesn't have good performance on Saturday and I will wish him well after Saturday, probably at around half-five!"
