"I didn't expect it to come so quickly but I'm delighted to extend my contract"

9 January 2018

Summer signing Tom Broadbent is keen to keep working hard and improving following signing a new deal this morning.

Tom joined Rovers from the Army in July 2017 and has gone on to make 16 appearances in all competitions for the club so far.

The 25-year old can now enjoy some further security, but acknowledges there's work to be done in what is a competitive squad.

"Competition can only be good for everyone, you can't sit back and believe that a position is yours otherwise you'll become complacent," Tom said speaking at the training ground on Tuesday morning.

"I think I've done alright since arriving, I've played more than I thought I would already but I feel comfortable playing at this level now and I just hope I can keep playing more games."

After serving as a Lance Bombardier in the Royal Artillery for six years, Tom signed his first professional contract with the club in the summer.

The centre-half has had to adapt to a new level and believes he has done so but wants to improve further.

"You've got to adapt; can't be diving in on players at this level otherwise they'll just skin you!

"I've learned loads since I've been here, I'm learning loads now and I'll continue to learn more and will do throughout my career in order to become a better player."

Looking back on the term so far and the rest of the campaign, Tom feels the sides have shown signs of improvement and hopes for a strong second half of the season.

"I think we've kicked on a little bit recently and hopefully we can build on that.

"This is my first season with the club but the lads have mentioned how the team usually does better in the second part of the season so hopefully we can do the same again this year."
