Opposition View: Fleetwood Town

21 December 2018

A detailed look at Saturday's opponents, Fleetwood Town.

Press Talk...

In the build-up to Saturday's game, Fleetwood Manager Joey Barton has spoken about the prospect of facing Rovers this weekend and has commented on how he expects a tenacious task come 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to fleetwoodtownfc.co.uk Barton said, “They’ve given a really good account of themselves at Sunderland at the weekend and we expect nothing less. I think it’s going to be a really tough fixture; this league hasn’t thrown up many easy games for us.

“We’ve been good enough to blow a few sides out, some good sides, out of the water early doors. But on the whole, every game has had a real physical edge and a real closeness.

“We really have to focus on our strengths, that’s been the key takeaway this week from me. It’s hard to predict what Bristol (Rovers) are going to do because of the uncertainty about who is their leader at this moment in time, and they’re a wounded animal."

Star Man...

Paddy Madden has been a constant goal threat for Fleetwood so far this campaign. The former Scunthorpe United forward is currently on ten goals for the season. Arriving at Highbury in January 2018, the forward grabbed five goals before the conclusion of the 2017/18 season and has managed to continue his good form this campaign. Madden raced to six goals before the end of October and scored in a recent win over Guiseley in the Emirates FA Cup.

Stat Attack...

Ahead of Saturday's game, Joey Barton's side have scored 13 goals away from Highbury so far this campaign, as they have held the lead at the halfway stage in three of their eleven games on the road. Fleetwood have conceded two or more goals in their last three away games.
