Three to Watch: Fleetwood Town

1 April 2018

We take a look at the potential dangermen to look out for on Monday afternoon.

Fleetwood Town parted company with Uwe Rosler towards the middle of February, as a run of poor results saw the Cod Army slip down the table.

John Sheridan was introduced as manager and tasked with ensuring that Fleetwood put distance between themselves and the bottom four and has seen a positive upturn in fortunes.

Under Sheridan's guidance, Fleetwood have picked up important wins over both Northampton and Rochdale and a win in tricky conditions on Friday saw Fleetwood climb to 15th in the SkyBet League One standings.

Take a look at the players to look out for on Monday afternoon, as Rovers head into the second fixture of the Easter schedule.

Ashley Hunter - Striker

The forward was rewarded with a new three-year contract in March and has been a key feature for the Cod Army this campaign, with over forty appearances.

Hunter's start in the professional game is rooted in non-league, as he signed for the club from Ilkeston in 2015.

The forward reached the goal tally of eleven last campaign, as Fleetwood were defeated in the play-off semi-final.

This season Hunter has chased down his goal return from last season and has seven to his name heading into the closing stages of the season.

Paddy Madden - Striker

A January signing for Fleetwood, Madden has been quick to set the pace in front of goal for his new club.

Arriving from Scunthorpe, the striker found the net in a victory over Southend to open his account for the Cod Army, but his next two goals for his new club all came in fixtures that ended in defeat, as his goals in encounters against Gillingham and Shrewsbury couldn't help Fleetwood to crucial points in their attempt to edge away from the bottom-four.

In recent times, the striker got his name on the scoresheet as Fleetwood held Plymouth to a draw at Highbury and was again on hand to score in an important 2-0 victory for Fleetwood over Rochdale.

Cian Bolger - Defender

Central defender Cian Bolger signed on with Fleetwood Town before the start of the 2016/17 campaign after leaving fellow Sky Bet League One side Southend United.

Bolger was born in Celbridge, Ireland but started his career in England with Leicester City, and even won their Academy Player of the Year award in 2009.

Bolger spent a spell on loan at Rovers in 2011, in a pursuit for first team football, and made his debut against Walsall on 29 January 2011.

The Irishman went on to have three spells at the club in as many years, making just under 50 appearances for the side before moving on to Bolton Wanderers after they offered a permanent deal.

Always a danger on set pieces, 6ft 3in Bolger has a healthy goal return for defence, with five to his name so far this season. The defender scored a brace against Hereford in the Emirates FA Cup and was on the scoresheet in recent weeks, helping Fleetwood to a crucial 2-0 victory over Northampton.

Bolger is part of the Fleetwood defensive unit that hasn't conceded a goal in their last four outings.
