Rovers and Kick It Out to host Diversity Debate

17 April 2018

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Bristol Rovers will be partnering with Kick It Out, Fans for Diversity and the Football Supporters Federation for a one of its kind event, with former player Anwar Uddin.

On Thursday 19th April, we will be hosting a free event at The Memorial Stadium, to discuss the current issues and challenges surrounding discrimination, equality and inclusion within football, with a panel consisting of club officials, staff and first team players including club captain Tom Lockyer, and Ellis Harrison.

The event is open to all football enthusiasts and local residents who wish to discuss how the sport can further develop inclusive practices which support equality for all and ensure that Rovers are at the forefront of developing community links and celebrating diversity amongst our fanbase.

Bristol Rovers Community Trust CEO Adam Tutton said, “We are delighted to be working with Fans for Diversity, Kick It Out and the Football Supporters Federation on what we hope will be a productive and informative evening, helping our club to move forward and support communities that are not regularly championed in football.”

The club is committed to ensuring everyone feels welcome at Bristol Rovers, and is dedicated to embedding itself even further within the local community.

Former Rovers player Anwar Uddin has been the FSF Diversity and campaigns manager for over three years. “It’s been a privilege for me to lead on the Fans for Diversity campaign over the last three years. It’s really important that with the help of everyone involved in the game, we promote the work of both Kick It Out and the Football Supporters’ Federations, and I believe the Fans for Diversity campaign can be a real benefit to all fans and bring communities closer to their clubs because football is for everybody.”

The evening will consist of a panel presentation where members of the audience can find out about the work from Kick It Out, Fans for Diversity and the Bristol Rovers Community Trust before a brief networking session where members of the audience can discuss their ideas with others. This will be followed by a question and answer session with panel members and we will also be holding a draw for you to win a signed Rovers shirt.

This unique and exciting event will take place in the Poplar Insulation suite and the doors open at 7pm. Entry is free and will include a free buffet for all attendees.
