Three To Watch: West Ham United's U21's

30 October 2017

The Hammers have won their only outing so far in this season's Checkatrade Trophy and sit in second place in Group K, trailing Rovers by goal difference.

A victory for either side will guarantee a place in the knock-out stages of the competition, with one game remaining.

Take a look below at the potential threats in the ranks of West Ham United's U21's ahead of Tuesday's Checkatrade Trophy Tie.

Martin Samuelsen

The twenty-year-old Norwegian playmaker spent time with the Manchester City Academy before joining West Ham United in June 2015.

Samuelson made his debut for the Hammers in a Europa League qualifying tie against Birkirkara and has since gone on to spend loan spells at both Blackburn Rovers and Peterborough United.

At international level, that attacking playmaker has represented Norway at various youth age categories and has progressed to play for the senior squad, making his national debut at nineteen against Iceland.

In West Ham's opening Checkatrade Trophy encounter, Samuelson scored West Ham's opening goal in a 3-2 victory over Swindon.

Moses Makasi

The defensive-minded midfielder captained Terry Westley's side in their outing in the competition against Swindon Town, with the youngster signing his first professional contract with the club back in 2014.

Last season the midfielder helped the West Ham U23 side achieve promotion in their respective league, building on his two goals in twenty appearances in the 2015/16 season for the U21 side.

Makasi also featured on the first team bench twice.

Antonio Martinez Lopez

The Spanish forward made the switch from Valencia to East-London in April 2016, with the striker scoring on his Premier League 2 debut in a victory over Stoke City.

In last season's Checkatrade Trophy, Martinez Lopez scoring a brace in a 4-2 defeat against eventual winners, Coventry City.

The forward had a spell on loan at Oxford United last season and scored in Oxford's comprehensive victory over Newcastle United in the Emirates FA Cup.

This campaign, the striker hit a purple patch in August, scoring seven goals in seven outing in the Premier League 2 Division 1.

The twenty-year-old has been capped with Spain up to the U-19 age category.
