Getting to Know: AFC Wimbledon

Take a look at our opponents next season in SkyBet League One.

6 June 2017

We take a look at AFC Wimbledon ahead of the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

Team Nickname: The Dons, The Wombles

Home Ground: Cherry Red Records Stadium (Kingsmeadow)

Distance from the Mem: 126 miles (252-mile round trip)

Manager: Neal Ardley has been in charge since October 2012. A former Wimbledon player, Ardley also represented Watford, Cardiff City and Millwall during his playing career. Ardley guided AFC Wimbledon to promotion to League One via the play-offs in May 2016 with a 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle at Wembley.

Last Season: The Dons finished the 2016/17 Sky Bet League One season in 15th position, ending the campaign with a points tally of 57 and a goal difference of -3. Over the course of the season, they registered thirteen victories, eighteen draws and fifteen defeats.

Last Encounter: A record-breaking goal from Byron Moore allowed Rovers to record a 1-0 victory when the sides faced each other in South-London back in April.

New Recruits: Neal Ardley has added to attacking options with the addition of striker Kwesi Appiah. The Ghana international, who helped his country reach the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015, enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Dons back in 2014 and re-joins AFC Wimbledon from Crystal Palace.

SkyBet Odds: League sponsors SkyBet offer odds of 9/1 on AFC Wimbledon earning promotion next season and odds of 4/1 on the Dons finishing inside the top six.
