Ellis Harrison Signs New Deal

28 June 2017

Ellis Harrison, today agreed to extend his stay with the club when he signed the new contract offered to him at the end of last season.

The 23 year old, who graduated through the ranks at the club, made his first team debut when going on as a second half substitute at Southampton in April 2011.

Speaking after he had signed his contract, Ellis said; “The fans are the biggest reason behind me signing a new contract. They are very passionate and I’m looking forward to playing in front of them again next season.”

"The Manager obviously wants to progress and I'm glad that the contract has now been signed and completed ahead of the start of pre-season training."

"Last season was very disappointing for me and I didn't get anywhere near the targets I set myself, but this year I'm determined to achieve the goals I set myself."

Manager Darrell Clarke added; “I am delighted that Ellis has agreed to sign his new contract.

“I know that he divides opinion amongst our supporters but we should remember that he is still only 23 and he continues to improve all the time.

“His attitude has been first class for the last couple of seasons and I could have sold him during that time for a six figure fee had I wanted to.

“I really am looking forward to working with him again next season as he will be an important member of our squad.”

He signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2012 and made his first start for the club in a 3-0 win against Fleetwood Town on 12th January 2013, and scored his first senior goal two weeks later, in a 3-1 win against Rotherham United.

A Welsh U-21 international, Ellis won Welsh U-21 caps against Lithuania and San Marino in October 2013 and scored his first goal for his country against San Marino.

Placed on the transfer list at the end of the 2013/14 campaign, he worked hard in pre-season training and featured regularly in the squad in 2014/15, making most of his appearances from the bench. He scored the first hat trick of his career in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup when Rovers registered a 7-1 win against Dorchester Town.

An extended run in the side towards the end of the season saw him score at Wembley in the Promotion Play Off Final against Grimsby Town.

After scoring in our league match at Oxford January 2016, Ellis spent a month’s loan with Hartlepool, but he returned to score some important goals for Rovers as promotion was clinched on the final day of the season.

Last season he scored four goals, the first Rovers player to do so in a match since Rickie Lambert, in a 5-0 win against Northampton Town, on 7th January 2017.

To date his Rovers career has taken in 141 league games and 32 goals.
