Rovers continued their pre-season build up today with a behind closed doors training match against Swindon Town.

The game, consisting of three thirty minute periods, ended goalless, and goalscoring opportunities were few and far between throughout.

Both sides, though, will view this as another worthwhile training session as they prepare for their league campaigns.

In the opening period Swindon started off brightly and might have taken a second minute lead but Adam Smith denied striker Harry Smith with a superb close range save.

For Rovers, Tom Nichols hit a long range effort high over the bar but Swindon were soon on the attack again and Smith was guilty of missing a gilt edged opportunity to give his side the lead, heading wide of an open goal after Smith had palmed away a cross from the left.

There was another chance for Rovers when Rory Gaffney burst down the left and crossed to Chris Lines, who saw his shot blocked by a Swindon defender.

The second period was followed the same patter as the first and was very even with no real chances created by either side. However it was played with a competitive edge and there were a few feisty tackles flying in from both sides

Rovers enjoyed the better of the third period exchanges and after a Swindon free kick had sailed over the crossbar, Stuart Sinclair went close but saw his angled drive blocked.

Billy Bodin hit a shot high over the bar before going close to scoring. His shot from a tight angle hit the post and rebounded back to him and his second attempt was saved by the keeper.

Swindon fired another effort over the bar but there were two good chances for both sides in the closing stages.

For Rovers, Bodin’s drive shaved the upright and drifted behind, while at the other end, Smith made an outstanding save from another close range effort from Smith.
