Rovers Sign Defender Tom Broadbent

19 July 2017

Central defender Tom Broadbent became our third signing in under a week when he joined the club today, whilst out in Portugal.

Tom, has been on trial with us since the start of pre-season training and has featured in a number of our pre-season games, the latest coming against Hull City last night.

The 25-year-old said today “I came in on 3rd July on trial and I was nervous, really, but I worked hard over the summer to keep myself fit.

“I have enjoyed my time here so far. The lads have been very welcoming, so that has been a great help as well.

“It's a massive club, with a great fan base, so it was a no brainer for me to join.”

Manager Darrell Clarke said; “Although he hasn’t played league football before, Tom has vast experience gained from playing non-league football and representative football for The Army.

“He has impressed during pre-season training and in the games he has featured in and will prove to be an excellent addition to our squad, providing competition for the central defensive positions.”

Former Lance Bombardier Tom Broadbent has played for Farnborough and most recently, Hayes and Yeading, as well as representing The Army.

As recently as May of this year Tom scored for The Army as they recorded back to back wins against the RAF and the Royal Navy to retain the Inter Services Football title.

His goal, described as a sweetly struck free kick, came in the 4-0 win against the Royal Navy at Huish Park.
