Three to Watch: Walsall

24 December 2017

Take a look at our Boxing Day opponents, Walsall F.C.

Rovers make one of the shortest trips of the season on Tuesday, to face Walsall.

The hosts head into Tuesday's game on the back of a 1-1 draw at Rochdale on Saturday, as a last gasp equaliser rescued a point for the Saddlers.

Take a look below at the potential danger man at the disposal of Walsall.

Erhun Oztumer - Midfield

The attacking midfielder enjoyed an outstanding debut season for Walsall in 2016/17, finishing as top scorer with fifteen goals.

Born in Greenwich, the 26-year-old spent nine years at Charlton prior to joining Turkish side Manisaspor’s youth scheme in 2008, aged 16.

He moved to Peterborough for an undisclosed fee in June 2014 and played 58 times over two seasons with Posh, scoring seven goals.

Signed by Walsall in June 2016, the creative schemer was named in the League One Team of the Year in 2016/17 and also received the division's Goal of the Month award twice, ending the season with a goal tally of fifteen.

This season, Ozrumer has carried on proving to be an attacking threat for the Saddler's with eleven goals so far this campaign to his name, closely approaching his tally from the previous season.

Currently enjoying a purple-patch in form, Oztumer has found the net in recent outings against Fleetwood, AFC Wimbledon, Bury and Northampton.

Joe Edwards - Midfield

The twenty-seven-year-old joined Walsall in June 2016 and lists Bath City as one of his former clubs.

Edwards was ever-present during his first season at the Saddlers, making just shy of fifty appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals in the process, finding the net in Walsall's victory over Rovers back in January.

This campaign, Edwards has again enjoyed regular playing time and has scored in victories over both Oxford and Oldham.

Daniel Agyei - Striker

Agyei completed his move to Walsall on deadline day in the summer, joining from Premier League outfit Burnley on a six-month loan deal.

The 20-year-old forward made his Premier League debut for The Clarets last season at Anfield in March, going on to play against Everton and Manchester United towards the end of the 2016/17 season.

At the beginning of last season, Agyei went out on loan to Coventry City, where he scored four goals in 12 league starts for the Sky Blues before returning to Turf Moor.

Agyei has five goals so far this season for Walsall, with boss John Whitney keen to extend the striker's day beyond January.
