Match Preview: Gillingham v Bristol Rovers

15 December 2017

Take a look at Saturday's opponents, Gillingham F.C.

Rovers: After taking maximum points from two home games in the past fortnight, Rovers will head to Priestfield hoping to extend their winning streak to three games. Saturday's game marks the beginning of five games in just sixteen days over the festive period.

Both Liam Sercombe and Ellis Harrison will be looking to continue their fine form in front of goal, as Harrison has three strikes in his last three games, while Sercombe found the net in both victories over Rotherham and Southend.

A win on Saturday for Darrell Clarke's side could see them climb six places in SkyBet League One.

Darrell Clarke's View: The Manager praised the commitment of the supporters during his weekly press conference on Thursday and insisted that the although Gillingham have a poor record at home, focus on Saturday will be on producing a performance, due to the competitive nature of the division.

Take a look below at Darrell's full Gillingham preview.

Opposition: Gillingham are currently sitting in 21st position in SkyBet League One. The Gills have had a frustrating week with their Emirates FA Cup replay at Carlisle postponed due to a frozen pitch and head into Saturday's game on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Plymouth last weekend. Steve Lovell's side have only won once this season at home in the league.

Dangerman: Tom Eaves

The 6'5 striker is Gillingham's top-scorer this season, with nine goals to his name in all competitions.

Rovers fans will recall the forward enjoying a loan spell at the Mem back in the 2012/13, where he found the net on seven occasions, capturing a brace in a 3-2 victory over Torquay United at the Mem.

After his spell at Rovers ended, Eaves took in temporary spells at Shrewsbury, Rotherham, Yeovil and Bury, before signing at Huish Park on a one-year deal in July 2016.

A return of seven goals over the course of the season at Yeovil put the striker on the radar of Gillingham, with Eaves making the switch to Priestfield in June 2017.

This season the striker opened his account with a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw with Southend and progressed to score four goals in seven outings between October and November.

Last weekend Eaves found the net in a 2-1 defeat against Plymouth.

Last Time Out: Roves were defeated in their last visit to Priestfield in closing stages of the 2016/17 season. After going behind to Josh Wright strike, Rovers levelled the game courtesy of a Billy Bodin penalty, but a stoppage time brace from Cody McDonald meant that the three points went to Gillingham on that occasion.
