DARRELL CLARKE: 'WE WANT TO KEEP ON MOVING FORWARD'

31 October 2016

Speaking to the press ahead of Tuesday evening's fixture at the Mem against Fleetwood Town, Manager Darrell Clarke spoke about how the team can use Saturday's defeat against Peterborough as motivation to pick up a positive result tomorrow evening.

"The dressing room was very despondent after the game, which is natural and it was great to see people responding in that way after a defeat," said the Manager.

"You certainly take a lot of heart from the performance, that's for sure, but the disappointment doesn't go away until the next game, where you have the chance of securing another win. It is always the target that we don't get too carried away when we win and we don't get too low when we lose. We reboot ourselves and we go again."

"Losing isn't a habit that we want to get used to and we will keep on moving forward. In the fifteen league games that we have played so far this season, there have been some really top notch performances. I thought Saturday was a really good performance by my team, but it was one of those days where things didn't quite turn out the right way for us."

Rovers go into tomorrow night's fixture knowing that they can move up into fifth place in SkyBet League One with a victory. The Manager relayed that he is happy with the early season performances from his squad.

"If someone had told me at the start of the season that we would be in the top ten in the league table with a third of the season gone, I would have been absolutely delighted."

"What has pleased me even more than finding ourselves inside the top ten is the performances of the players, which as a whole have been pretty promising."

"For me, I'm a little bit disappointed that we are not nearer the thirty-point mark, as that is where I believe our performances have warranted us to be."

"We want to keep on moving forward and we want to keep on improving the performances, and these are the questions that I want my players to answer, to ensure we can keep on progressing."

Fleetwood Town find themselves in 10th place in SkyBet League One and make the journey to Bristol on Tuesday on the back of a 2-1 victory over Gillingham at the weekend.

"Fleetwood are a very good, hard-working team. In the games that I have watched, they don't stop and they have good players," said Darrell.

"They are a club that has spent millions on a new training facility and they have an owner that has backed them through from non-league and into the league that they find themselves in now."

"People look at them and say that they aren't a big club, but go and have a look at their training base and what they are about as a football club and where they want to go as a club."
