Bristol Rovers 5 -2 Slimbridge AFC
The Gas defeat Slimbridge 5-2 at the Mem to progress in the GFA Cup.
Rovers took an early advantage in the game when a perfectly weighted cross from the left-hand side was played into the box at a good height which allowed trialist Ross Cook to climb the highest to send a powerful header into the net.
Chances kept coming for Rovers, with Billy Bodin taking advantage of both time and space inside the area to turn to give himself an angle to shoot, with his effort flashing narrowly past the post.
Slimbridge were awarded a penalty when Danny Greenslade was deemed to have committed a foul inside the area, in what was a rare venture into the Rovers box for the visitors. Adam Mace stepped up and dispatched the resulting set piece, sending Will Puddy the wrong way from the penalty spot.
After the break, Rovers restored their lead within two minutes of the restart when trialist Jae Kim drove to the edge of the area before connecting sweetly with a right-footed effort that soared into the top corner of the net.
Slimbridge responded immediately with a fine individual goal from Joe Stokes, who calmly gathered the ball on the bounce and from a tight angle inside the Rovers box the midfielder managed to loft the ball into the far corner of the net and out of the reach of Rovers 'keeper Will Puddy.
Rovers pulled back ahead just three minutes later, to make it three goals in just under nine minutes, with Byron Moore being in the right place at the right time to tap home from close-range after trialist Ross Cook had a powerful volley blocked just shy of the goal.
With just over ten minutes left on the clock, Billy Bodin added to the goal tally for Rovers, stepping inside before unleashing a low effort that beat Slimbridge 'keeper Adrian Kowalsi for pace and Bodin's shot nestled into the bottom corner.
In stoppage time Ryan Broom completed the scoring for Rovers, timing a run to the far-post that allowed the wideman to tap home after a goal mouth scramble.
The victory for Rovers sets up a tie at Cinderford in the next stage of the competition.
