DARRELL ON ONE YEAR AT ROVERS

26 March 2015

The manager talks about his year in charge

Darrell Clarke was appointed Bristol Rovers manager one year ago today and he tells us that it has been a 'mixed bag of emotions' over the past 365 days.

"It has been really up and down given the back end of last season and then the board giving me an opportunity even though I was part of the relegation to try and turn it around.

"I feel that with a lot of hard work from myself, my staff and of course the players we are back on the right track.

"I have great belief in the way that I manage, I had a really good apprenticeship at Sailsbury, working with full time players every day and I had a lot of success at that club on a relatively low budget.

"To come to a massively supported club like this one, even as John Ward's assistant I was very proud and now that I've taken over the club seem to be heading in the right direction.

"Now we want to finish the season the right way and get promotion back into the football league.

When asked about the pressures on himself at the start of the season, Darrell said "I understand where the supporters are coming from because they've had a lot of heartache over the past few years and I don't think there has been a winning mentality at the club.

"I have since received a lot of letters and emails of support which I really appreciate. We have had negatives along the way, but that is to be expected because as a manager you are never going to get every supporter right behind you.

"For the way that the supporters have given me the opportunity to be the manager of this football club I can't thank them enough.
