DARRELL - WE HAD TO BE PATIENT

28 February 2015

The managers post match comments

Bristol Rovers picked up another vital three points away from home and manager Darrell Clarke told us that the long journey was worth it for the win.

"We knew this game was going to be difficult because of the game they gave us at the Mem and they play football in the right way.

"We knew that at times we would have to be patient and focus on our shape without the ball and I thought that the lads stuck to their tasks superbly.

"You hope that you will create chances in games like this and Ellis [Harrison] has broken through and got the winner which I am absolutely delighted with.

"Ellis has come off the bench and got us goals a few times this season but today I thought Nathan [Blissett] was excellent today because of his presence.

"At the back end of a tough week with two home fixtures in there as well to come and win away at Gateshead isn't an easy task and we've done that today.

"Every manager will tell you that you have to find different ways of getting the three points and we have done another one of those today.

Stuart Sinclair made his return to action for the first time since 4th January but was then stretched off in the first half and Darrell tells us that it looks like a bad one.

"It looks like a serious knee injury for Stuart [Sinclair] but we will have to get it scanned and assessed and it is very very unfortunate.

"It is a massive body blow to the players at this stage of the season and Stuart was in tears at half time because that is the type of player he is, he just wants to play and win football matches.

"I think he landed awkwardly but it is to early to assess it properly.

667 Gasheads made the trip to Gateshead to cheer on Darrell Clarke's men and the Rovers boss couldn't speak highly enough of the supporters in his post-match press conference.

"It was a magnificent turn out given the distance and they will be going home happy because we have won.

"Having that number of supporters here supporting the boys is fantastic and you can really tell that it helps the lads and you could see how they reacted at the final whistle.
