NEW SIGNING: JEFFREY MONAKANA

4 August 2015

Bristol Rovers today completed the signing of Brighton midfielder Jeffrey Monakana in a one-month loan deal.

Speaking of his new signing manager Darrell Clarke said; “Although he’s only 21 Jeffrey ticks a lot of boxes; I watched him play a couple of years ago and he caught my eye then.

“For a 21 year old he has a lot of appearances under his belt and he was keen to come here to further his experience.

“If he does well hopefully we might be able to extend his loan, but for now I’m delighted to have another option for the right side of midfield.

“He’s had a good grounding in the game, having come through the youth system at Arsenal, and having made almost 50 appearances for Preston North End.

“Brighton manager Chris Hughton spoke highly of him and he gives us a different option. I think he is a key piece in the jigsaw as he is a natural right winger and, in Cristian Montano we have a natural left winger.”

Chairman Nick Higgs also welcomed the now signing, saying; “I would like to welcome Jeffrey to the club and wish him every success whilst he is with us.

“He comes to us as a highly recommended right winger and I know that Darrell rates him very highly. Along with the other new signings we have brought to the club, I think we have an exciting looking squad as we prepare for life back in League Two.”

Having progressed through the youth system at Arsenal, Jeffrey signed for Preston in the summer of 2012 and I his time at Deepdale he scored six goals in 49 league appearances. He also scored once in nine league games during a loan spell with Colchester United.

He moved to Brighton in January 2014 and although he hasn’t made a first team appearance for The Seagulls he has spent time on loan at Crawley Town, Aberdeen, Mansfield Town and Carlisle United.
