Dover Athletic 1-1 Bristol Rovers

Attendance: 2,351

Rovers missed the chance to go top of the Vanarama Conference after a 1-1 draw with Dover Athletic.

Ellis Harrison's 8th goal in 9 games opened the scoring before Ricky Modeste drew the game level in the final five minutes of the game.

Darrell Clarke made one change to the line-up that beat Southport 2-0 at the Mem last week bringing in Nathan Blissett to add an additional physical presence through the middle of the park. The inclusion of Blissett does mean that Adam Dawson misses out altogether in what would have been the last game of his loan spell.

It was the home side who started the brighter and within the opening five minutes Solomon Taiwo stung the palms of Will Puddy with a shot from the edge of the area.

Rovers tried to break down a resolute Athletic defence in what was a very scrappy opening 20 minutes before a moment of brilliance from Ellis Harrison played in Matty Taylor but the clubs top goal scorer could only scuff his shot into the hands of Mitch Walker.

In a half of not many chances, from a poor clearance from the Rovers back line, Solomon Taiwo was presented with a shooting opportunity but blazed the ball far over the end fulled with Gasheads.

Just before the break Rovers had their first sight of goal as Ellis Harrison was bundled to the ground by Richard Orlu but Lee Brown struck his free kick narrowly wide of Mitch Walker's right hand post.

Rovers came out a completely different side in the second half and within the first five minutes but Tom Parkes couldn't direct Chris Lines' corner on target.

However, it was Dover who had the best chance of the game as Sean Raggett and Connor Essam miss the ball at the far post from a Nick Deverdics free kick.

Darrell Clarke's men continued to search for that breakthrough goal and on the hour mark Ellis Harrison latched onto a high bouncing ball and advanced into the penalty area but dragged his shot wide of the goal.

Moments later Rovers took the lead through that man Ellis Harrison.

A Chris Lines free kick was headed back across goal by Nathan Blissett and the young Welshman was there to apply the finish from close range to net his eighth goal in nine games.

The Rovers boss opted to freshen things up with just over 10 minutes of the game remaining bringing on Angelo Balanta for Ellis Harrison who received a standing ovation from the traveling Rovers faithful.

Dover drew the game level in the 87th minute as Ricky Modeste bundled the ball home from close range. Rovers had been under a great deal of pressure but Will Puddy failed to gather Tom Murphy's cross and Modeste was there to head home from close range.

Today's draw means that it is as you were at the top of the table with Rovers still trailing Barnet going into the final fixture of the regular 2014/15 season as Darrell Clarke's men entertain Alfreton Town at the Memorial Stadium next weekend.
