Manager on potential movements
Darrell Clarke would like to bring a new face in before the transfer window closes this evening.But the manager will not be signing someone for the sake of it, as the loan window will reopen in a week’s time.
He said: “I would like to add one today, whether it be a loan or a permanent.
“I have put my name in the hat for a couple of players that fit the bill, and if one of them comes offs I will be happy, but if it doesn’t we move on.
“I am not going to sign someone for the sake of it, they have to improve the squad of players.
“When the window shuts I am still out looking at players – managers don’t stand still. The window opens in a loan capacity after a week anyway.
“My players have to be at it, as I won’t wait round and I will always be looking for players to improve the team.”
The manager also confirmed that Jamie Turley is still training with the club.
He said: “Jamie Turley is still training with us, and that is still on the cards for when he is fit.
“He is training and working hard to try and get himself right, and he is just waiting for the clearance from the specialist.”
Darrell is looking forward to a busy September and is hoping things are starting to settle down at the club after the upheaval of the summer.
He said: “I think it is important that we have a bit of a settling down period now, and start building momentum in the league and get focussed on winning football matches.
“We know we have to improve, but we take confidence out of the last week.
“There was such a turnover of players in the summer and it takes a bit of time to gel, but we were very disappointed as a group with how the first week went.
“I treat every game as a new project. The last three games I haven’t had to make too many changes, that is not because we have done well, but it was the fact that I thought it was the best system and team to win that football match.
“We have seven games in September, so that is going to be telling on our squad, and we have two players away on international duty now, but it is great for the club that we have some internationals in the team.”
And tomorrow Rovers will play a friendly against Newport County.
Darrell said: “We have got a behind closed door friendly with Newport County tomorrow morning for some of the boys who need to get some minutes under their belts.
“We are going to go and train down there as well for a change of scenery, so it should be good.”
