Assitant manager on the next two games
Marcus Stewart hopes that Bristol Rovers can pick up their first win of the season this weekend.The team have not started the way everyone would have liked, but the assistant manager knows it is important to start to put things right as soon as possible.
He said: “We have got a big weekend coming up. We just want to get a result - you want to get your first win under your belt as soon as you can.
“We have got two games quick fire this weekend, where we can put things right.
“The lads are an honest bunch, and they know what is expected of them. They want to train hard, but they need to go out there with no fear.”
The former Rover striker was overwhelmed with the support at our first home game this season, and is hoping for more of the same on Saturday.
He said: “Our fans are brilliant, they get behind the lads. We didn’t know what crowd to expect against Grimsby, but we ended up getting over 7,000, and that tells a story in itself.
“I am sure they will come out in their numbers on Saturday and produce the same level of support they did at the last home game.”
And Marcus also had praise for the manager. He said: “Darrell is a really passionate, enthusiastic manager, who understands what it takes to get this club back to where it needs to be.
“He works tirelessly and he is infectious around the lads in terms of getting them going and trying to give them confidence.”
The assistant manager says the club are still looking for a striker, but it is not a case of wanting to get rid of the strikers we currently have.
He said: “We have put in one or two bids for strikers, but nothing has come of that as yet.
“We need strikers to come in to improve the team. There is a lot of pressure on strikers to get goals, and that hasn’t happened at the moment.
“We are not getting strikers in to get rid of strikers, we have good strikers here, we are trying to get strikers in to try and take the pressure off the ones already here, as one or two of them are still learning.”
And looking at Saturday’s opposition, Marcus said: “Telford are not a bad side, they are quite direct and they look to put pressure on you. They are strong and understand their jobs.
“They will be a different prospect to Altrincham who played through the thirds.
“We are at home, we are unbeaten at home, so let’s stay like that.”
