Manager on gaining point at the New Lawn

25 August 2014

Reflecting on this afternoon’s performance against Forest Green Rovers, manager Darrell Clarke said; “I was pleased with our performance, but a little bit disappointed that we didn’t get the win I felt we deserved.

“I think we created more chances than Forest Green and they probably only enjoyed a 15 minute spell when they put us under a little bit of pressure.”

The 1-1 draw at the New Lawn means that Darrell’s side has taken four points from their two games over the Bank Holiday period.

“We have put a bad week behind us and enjoyed a good weekend. If you had said to me last Friday that we would take three points from our next two games, the two games, I would probably have taken them.”

Only an unfortunate deflection gave the home side an equaliser, which came at a time when Rovers were dominating proceedings.

“I think we can consider ourselves a little bit unlucky not to have taken maximum points. Their goal came about as a result of a deflection and whilst we might have dealt with the cross into our box a little bit, I
was pleased to see three of our players try to close the ball down when the shot came in. It just took a deflection off of an arm and went in.”

In an excellent team performance, it was difficult to single anyone out for praise.

“I thought all of the lads had a decent game as they all worked hard and put a shift in against a Forest Green side containing some good, experienced, players.

“I have a good set of players here and our fans here were superb and got behind the lads and, as a manager, that’s all I can ask.

“This is the fifth game the boys have played together and I only see us improving from here.”

The manager had to make a substitution early in the second half, with Ellis Harrison replacing Adam Cunnington

“Adam has a thigh problem and we are hoping it’s just a dead leg and not a hoping it’s not a pull or a strain, but we will assess it over the next few days.”

As for making any additions to the squad the manager, it seems, is always on the lookout for the right player at the right price!

“I’ll be looking to strengthen the squad all through the season. You have to be looking for players who can come in and improve the squad, but at the right price.

“We have to spend our money wisely, and I’ll speak to the Board and see what money is available and go and try to get the right players. We are always hopeful of bringing players in, but we will have to wait and see what happens.”
