Gas denied 3 points after game abandoned

Wycombe Wanderers 1
Logan (14)

Bristol Rovers 3
Brown (L) (10), Richards (34 & 36)

Match abandoned after 65 minutes

Manager Mark McGhee made one change to his starting lineup for this game, and that saw Wayne Brown come into the side in place of Seanan Clucas.

Rovers enjoyed a great deal of early possession, but they might well have been behind on four minutes when Wycombe almost scored from their first attack,.

A cross in from the left saw everyone hesitate before the ball reached the unmarked Richard Logan. However with only Sam Walker to beat he headed into the arms of the grateful keeper.

Rovers continued to take the game to their opponents and deservedly went in front on ten minutes when David Clarkson squared the ball into Lee

Brown from out on the left and he struck a ferocious shot past goalkeeper Nikki Bull from six yards.

However they were in front for just four minutes as Logan made up for his earlier miss by heading Past walker from Matt Spring’s cross.

Spring almost added a second for his side when he shot just wide of the upright following a short free kick routine, but Rovers were soon on the attack again and Matt Harrold created a great chance for Eliot Richards, nodding the ball straight into his path.

The young striker hit that effort over the bar, but soon made amends with two goals in as many minutes.

The first came when Harrold chested the ball into his path and he hit a 30 yard shot which was in the back of the net before Bull had completed his dive.

The second came after he picked up a clearance from a Wycombe defender and rifled a first time shot into the top corner of the net.

There were two more chances for Rovers to increase their lead in the final minute of the half, both from the hard working David Clarkson who scuffed his first effort and then saw another shot blocked by a packed home defence.

Clarkson glanced a header wide just after then break while Charles Dunne fired over at the other end,

Clarkson was then denied by a puddle of water as he was faced with an open goal. The ball held up and the striker lost his footing as players were forced into errors by torrential rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

On 65 minutes the referee took the players off for what was supposed to be a 10 minute break.

However the health and safety officer decided that the lightening posed too much of a danger for fans and players alike and the game was abandoned.
