Player Biography

Alex Chang completed a busy transfer deadline day for Bristol Rovers when he joined the Club on a season-long loan from Birmingham City, with an option to make the move permanent.

Born in Worchester, Chang joined the Birmingham City Academy as an Under-10s and progressed through the youth set-up before putting pen-to-paper on his scholarship agreement in 2019 and his first professional contract in 2021.

The midfielder made his senior debut for the Blues, coming off the bench in a Carabao Cup defeat to Fulham in August 2021, and made his first competitive start in the same competition a year later – a first-round defeat to Norwich City.

Chang’s first appearance in league football was a start in the Sky Bet Championship away to Cardiff City in August 2022, with the midfielder going on to make 13 league appearances that campaign, of which seven were starts.

A knee injury, sustained in August 2023, ruled Chang out of action for a significant period with the midfielder returning for Birmingham City in an FA Cup fixture against Lincoln City in January 2025.

A loan to Sky Bet League Two side Walsall followed for Chang for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign, where he made eight appearances in all competitions, including scoring his first goal in senior football in the first leg of the play-off semi-finals away to Chesterfield.
