Nathan Hallett-Young was pleased with Bristol Rovers Women's comfortable victory over Portishead Town Ladies and wants his side to keep pushing towards their targets heading towards the closing stages of the season.
The Pirates lost 3-1 to Swindon Town in midweek, but bounced back with an impressive 5-0 victory against Portishead on Sunday afternoon. Nia Rees bagged a first-half brace, with her two goals coming on either side of Chloe Bassett's header to give the hosts a three-goal advantage.
Nevertheless, Rovers netted again just before the break, with Amelie Gould finding the bottom corner to give her side a comfortable advantage. It looked like the score would stay the same heading towards the final whistle, but Chloe Joyce got her first for the Club moments before the end to seal a five-star performance.
Speaking to BRTV, Hallett-Young spoke highly of his side after a busy week and wants them to push until the end.
Nathan, a comfortable 5-0 win today. How do you feel after that one?
“It was a comfortable win and something that we wanted to make sure we got here, got the points and got away with it, really. It was a tough week; the mileage has been high, and the level of games and opposition has been high, and it was always going to take its toll.
"So, the fact that we came here a little bit depleted and we were able to get the three points and the afternoon has been as comfortable as it has been was ideal for us.”
Most notably, Chloe Joyce from the Community Trust started and scored in Tier Four. How do you feel after her performance?
“It’s showing that the pathway is working, and the youngsters that are out on the pitch, also with Amelie scoring as well, are getting the likes of Grace Clark on. I think we’re in a really, really good place with the youngsters that can come through for us, and I’m delighted that Chloe has gone and scored, and I’m delighted Amelie was on the scoresheet as well. She’s really starting to convert her chances into goals and assists, and that’s ideal for us.
"These weeks provide us with an opportunity for that rotation, and where we need to have a bit more rest. So, I’m glad that we were able to get them on, and I’m glad they were able to put a performance in.”
There is a bit of a break now and time for rest and recuperation...
"It’s needed after this week. We’ve got a week off, and the girls deserve it. They have worked their socks off all week, and 270 minutes are in the bag for a few of them in there as well. So, a well-earned rest and we’ll regroup, ready for Abbington away, and hopefully, we’ll continue on the path we are on.
"We’re still chasing, and I think it’s important for us to keep really pushing as much as we can, and we’re gunning for our target of making sure that we improve on the points total from last year. So, that’sa good three points today.
"It means we’re not far away from the target that we’ve set ourselves, and hopefully, we can surpass that and keep finding a way to scrap towards the top."
