Nathan Hallett-Young was buzzing after Bristol Rovers Women recorded an emphatic 10-0 victory over Worthing in the Women's National League South West.
The Gas were playing at The Memorial Stadium and dominated throughout the contest, gaining a four-goal lead at half-time thanks to braces from Amelie Gould and Chloe Bassett.
New signing Chloe Snook then got in on the action four minutes after half-time for her first goal for the Pirates before Basett netted again to complete her hat-trick. Snook netted again for Rovers' seventh goal before Charlotte Buxton became the Pirates' fourth different scorer of the afternoon.
With 20 minutes still on the clock, Gould and Snook bagged again to complete their hat-tricks. Rovers have started the year with back-to-back victories in all competitions, with Hallett-Young delighted with his team's performance all over the pitch.
Nathan, three hat-tricks, four of our three forwards and ten goals on the board for the first time in the National League. How do you feel?
“If I were going to talk about every moment that we had, then it would be a long, old interview. It’s a great performance from us. Finishing training has worked in the week, and it’s something that we’ve been trying to make sure that we’re ample on.
“It was going to take some time to shift for some of the new ones coming in, but I’m buzzing that Amelie’s had a great game last week, and she’s jumped into this week, and she was on fire. She was a real handful for their backline, and I think across the front three, they were. Chloe Snook and Chloe Bassett on both sides were ticking and were creating a lot of problems.
“It was good to see that the goals could come from multiple angles and areas, and we could just keep the ball ticking over. I don’t really know how much George Hunt did in the second half. It’s helpful as it shows we’reretaining the ball well and moving it around quite a lot, making it really difficult for the opposition to break out.
“It’s a great day because we’ve run the scoreline up and got the three points, which is the most important thing. We’ve kept a clean sheet as well, another important one. It tees us up for the second half of the season.”
Amelie, 16 years old, her confidence must be sky high...
“In the summer when we brought her in, I said to her that it was going to take her some time to really make a name for yourself and break the mould. She’s really worked hard, and we can see her growth has been huge over the last few weeks and months.
“You can see that she’s somebody who has a really high ceiling. So, I’m buzzing that she’s had the chance and she’s run with it. If she can continue that, then holding down that starting shirt is something that she’ll really look for, and I think she deserves it.
“She’s worked really hard on the pitch, off the pitch, you can see that, and that’s what we want from our players. We want them all really chomping at the bit and hungry to get a match shirt. We want them to go and perform and keep hold of it.So, I am buzzing for her and buzzing for the whole squad because it’s a great three points, and it just puts us in a great position going into the New Year."
