Match Preview | Oldham Athletic v Bristol Rovers

OLDHAM ATHLETIC

Oldham Athletic v Bristol Rovers
Sky Bet League Two, Boundary Park, Tuesday 17 February 2026, 7:45pm KO

Bristol Rovers will be looking to bounce back from Saturday's disappointing defeat to Cambridge United when they travel to Oldham Athletic.

The Pirates started well against the U's, with Fabrizio Cavegn forcing Jake Eastwood into a clever save inside the first minute before Ben Knight opened the scoring with a fine finish from the edge of the box.

Joe Quigley levelled the score with a penalty just before half-time, but Knight scored with his own spot-kick to put Neil Harris' men ahead for the second time before Kelland Watts sealed the points for the hosts with a header.

Oldham drew 1-1 with Fleetwood Town in their previous outing, with Mark Helm breaking the deadlock for Cod Army before Jack Stevens hit an equaliser towards the end of the contest.

Opposition…

Oldham are back in the EFL after a dramatic promotion from the National League last campaign. The Latics finished fifth in the fifth tier in the previous term, beating Halifax Town and York City in the playoffs before an enthralling fixture against Southend United at Wembley.

Micky Mellon's men were behind twice in the contest, including in extra-time, and substitutes James Norwood and Kian Harratt scored in quick succession to turn the score around to secure their place back in the EFL for the first time in 34 years.

The Latics have had a steady season in Sky Bet League Two and are 16th in the table, 14 points above the relegation zone. However, they will be looking to turn around their recent form, losing three straight fixtures before a draw with Fleetwood on Saturday.

Oldham made a few additions in the January transfer window, with two loan signings and one permanent addition. Winger Fábio Jaló and midfielder have moved to the club temporarily from Barnsley and Aston Villa, respectively, with striker Calum Kavanagh moving from Bradford City on a contract until 2028.

There will be a very familiar face to Oldham fans in Rovers' ranks on Tuesday night, with Joe Quigley making the switch to the Gas on deadline day in the January transfer window.

Previous Meetings…

Rovers have only won one of their previous five fixtures against Oldham and will be searching for their first victory on the road against the upcoming opponents since 2016, when Charlie Colkett and Jake Clarke-Salter scored in a 2-0 triumph.

The Pirates were defeated 2-1 in their last Football League away game against Oldham in February 2022, previously losing consecutive visits to Boundary Park between 1975 and 1991 (seven).

Oldham have won just three of their last 15 Football League games against Bristol Rovers (drawing three and losing nine), failing to score on 10 occasions in that run.
