Bristol Rovers v Worthing

FA Women’s National League, The Memorial Stadium, Sunday 25 January, 2pm

The Gas Girls return to The Memorial Stadium this weekend full of confidence after starting the new year in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 derby victory over Bristol City Academy.

Rovers showed resilience and character last weekend, coming from behind on two occasions in a hard-fought encounter played in difficult conditions. After falling behind early, player of the match Ruby Scahill levelled the scores before half-time, only for the visitors to regain their lead just before the break. A strong second-half response followed, with debutant Kelly Highman making an immediate impact off the bench to equalise, before substitute Amelie Gould sealed a thrilling stoppage-time winner to complete an impressive comeback.

Carrying that momentum into Sunday’s fixture, Rovers will be looking to build on their positive start to the year as they welcome Worthing to The Mem.

Opposition...

Worthing currently sit bottom of the Women's National League South West table following a difficult season so far. They opened the season with a high-scoring 5-4 victory over Portishead, but that result accounts for only one of their two wins to date.

Alongside one draw and ten defeats, their struggles have left them nine places behind third-placed Rovers. However, their most recent game was positive, as they beat Steyning Town Development 11-1 in the cup, giving them a strong start to the year.

Previous Meetings...

Last season, Worthing finished just one place below Rovers, with only five points separating the two teams. Rovers had the upper hand, winning both home and away fixtures. This season, the teams have already met once, with Rovers claiming a dominant 9-0 victory away from home. Six goals came from Meg Jarvis, alongside Annys Turner and Abbey Hateley, with another stoppage-time strike from Amelie Gould, echoing last weekend’s dramatic finish.
