After a tough test against former Premier League champions Leicester City, the levels stepped up when Rovers hosted Pompey. The Gas challenged John Mousinho's men and gained the lead through Fabrizio Cavegn, who found the bottom corner with a clinical finish from the edge of the box.
However, the Pirates could not hold onto their narrow advantage, with Brandon Downey netting from close range. Nevertheless, it was another strong pre-season showing from Rovers, who will now turn their attention to Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday evening.
