MATCH PREVIEW

Bristol Rovers v Tranmere Rovers
Sky Bet League Two, The Memorial Stadium, Saturday 18 October 2025, 3:00pm KO

Bristol Rovers will be looking to return to winning ways when they welcome Tranmere Rovers to The Memorial Stadium in Sky Bet League Two.

The Gas had won three straight games at The Mem before falling to a 4-0 defeat to Milton Keynes Dons last weekend. Alfie Kilgour's own goal had given the visitors a first-half lead, which Paul Warne's men tightly held until the closing stages, before strikes from Laurence Maguire, Alex Gilbey and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy helped them to a big win on the road.

Rovers have lost back-to-back matches in the fourth tier but will still have confidence after a previous eight-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, winning five and drawing two in Sky Bet League Two and will know one positive result can get the run started again.

Tranmere lost 2-0 to Barnet in their last outing, with first-half goals from Lee Ndlovu and Adam Senior helping the Bees to victory.

Opposition...

Tranmere were relegated from Sky Bet League One in the 2019/20 season and are in the fourth tier for the sixth straight season. They have spent most of their time around the middle of the table, but have slowly slipped down the rankings in the last few years.

Losing in the playoff semi-finals in the 2020/21 term after a seventh-place finish, before coming ninth, 12th, 16th and then 20th last term.

Tranmere are winless in their previous seven fixtures in the fourth tier and will be looking to find a spark to reboot their season after winning only two of their first 11 matches in Sky Bet League Two.

The Super White Army have found things difficult on the road and have conceded ten times in their previous three matches away from Prenton Park, letting in three goals to Bromley and Salford City, either side of conceding four to Walsall.

Previous Meetings...

There has been nothing to separate Rovers and Tranmere in their last three outings, with the two teams playing out three draws. The previous two meetings took place during the 2021/22 season in Sky Bet League Two, with Josh Grant and Sam Nicholson scoring to give the Pirates a two-goal lead before goals from Callum MacDonald and Paul Glatzel earned Tranmere a point at The Mem. The reverse fixture ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Gas last beat Tranmere at The Mem in August 2019, with Jonson Clarke-Harris and Tyler Smith scoring for the hosts, with Corey Blackett-Taylor and Oliver Banks getting sent off for Tranmere. Tranmere's last win over the Pirates at The Mem came in September 2010, with Dale Jennings scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory. The Super White Army had Péter Gulácsi in goal that day. The shot-stopper was on loan from Liverpool at the time and has gone on to make 345 appearances in all competitions for RB Leipzig and 58 for Hungary.
