Bristol Rovers v Portishead Town,

FA Women’s National League, The South West Interiors Stadium, Sunday 22nd February, 2 pm

Bristol Rovers return home this Sunday as they prepare to face Portishead Town in league action.

The Gas Girls head into a busy week following an impressive 3-1 victory over Tier 3 Cheltenham Town in the cup last Sunday, before suffering a frustrating defeat to Swindon Town midweek.

The midweek clash started brightly, with Amelie Gould firing home a stunning early opener. A perfectly delivered cross from Maisy Collis found Gould in space, and she calmly slotted the ball away to give Rovers the advantage. The Gas Girls worked tirelessly throughout the first half, heading into the break with the game level.

However, despite their strong start and determined performance, it proved not to be their night as Swindon capitalised in the second half, netting twice to take the win.

Manager Nathan Hallett-Young remained positive after the match, saying: “Today was frustrating, but there were positives in there … We are in a good place, regardless of the result tonight — we can keep building and growing as a club.”

His comments reflect the belief and resilience within the squad, with Rovers determined to respond on Sunday and put in a strong performance on home soil.

Opposition...

Portishead Town come into Sunday’s fixture having gained three valuable points in midweek, as they beat Keynsham Town 2-1. They also arrive off the back of a solid 3-0 cup victory over Bridgwater United Reserves last Sunday.

Portishead currently sit in a vulnerable position; however, with the South-West side 11th in the table after a challenging campaign so far. They have recorded just three league wins this season, alongside one draw and twelve defeats.

Previous Meetings...

When the two sides met earlier this season, the Gas Girls secured a comfortable 4-0 victory. Rovers led 1-0 at the break before adding three more goals in the second half. Chloe Bassett, Maisy Collis and Meg Javis were all on the scoresheet in a dominant display.

Rovers have proven to be tough opposition for Portishead in recent seasons, having also completed the league double over them last campaign. With that record in mind, the Gas Girls will be aiming to continue their strong form in this fixture on Sunday.
