Bristol Rovers v Gillingham

Bristol Rovers v Gillingham
Sky Bet League Two, The Memorial Stadium, Saturday 8 November 2025, 3:00pm KO

Bristol Rovers will be hoping to get back to winning ways in Sky Bet League Two when they face Gillingham at The Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Darrel Clarke’s side are fresh off an Emirates FA Cup first-round victory against fellow fourth-tier side Bromley. Goals from Fabrizio Cavegn and a first Gas goal for Joel Cotterill meant Rovers would progress to face Port Vale at Vale Park in the next round.

The Pirates have lost their last four league games and will see the game against Gillingham as a good chance to recapture the form they found in September, when they were unbeaten with three victories and one draw.

Gillingham have struggled for positive results in recent weeks. A strong start to the season saw them unbeaten until late September, but they have been unable to pick up three points since they travelled to Newport County on Saturday 20 September.

Opposition...

Gillingham (known as the Gills) were relegated to Sky Bet League Two in 2022, ending their six-year term in League One. Since their relegation, the Gills have struggled to return to the third tier, with their best league result being 12th in the 2023/24 season.

Head coach Gareth Ainsworth has a wealth of experience in the EFL, especially with Wycombe Wanderers, where he spent ten very successful seasons with the Blues before departing for Queens Park Rangers in February 2023.

Gillingham are winless in their last seven in all competitions, including losses to promotion hopefuls Milton Keynes Dons and Grimsby Town, leaving Gillingham in eighth position.

The Gills' strong start to the season is what keeps them just outside the playoff spots. Victories over Walsall, Chesterfield and Crewe Alexandra in the opening weeks of the season left Gillingham fans wondering if this was the year they would return to League One.

Previous Meetings...

Gillingham have had the better of Rovers in recent years, running out 2-0 victors in the last two meetings. The most recent was at the Priestfield Stadium, where John Akinde scored a brace and missed a penalty for the hosts.

The Pirates last defeated Gillingham in March of 2019 when Johnson Clarke-Harris scored the only goal of the game to give the Gas all three points on the road under boss Graham Coughlan.
